While I was on
the show, one running question was whether my partner
Shay was closer to fulfilling the role of a wife or a mother. Regardless of the answer (my own was largely inspired by a comment from
Deborah), it was largely agreed that we were good onscreen together, and the producers had floated the idea of the two of us doing something like a morning show together once our contracts with the show expired (one year after the final episode). I never thought they were serious about this idea, and as I already had some job options "in the works" while on the show, I didn't give it much thought. When Shay moved out to CA, I asked her to look into this, but of course didn't expect anything to really happen. I was therefore surprised to find a voice-mail message waiting for me when I got home from my usual Tuesday night trivia. Apparently, Shay's question had prompted the producers to go looking through their old notes, and they found some of their original ideas. As it turns out,
Joke Productions is seriously considering branching out into this genre, though nothing is settled yet, and they'd like us to audition for roles. They want me to fly out sometime this month, but as it's not exactly an optimal time to travel due to my class at work, I'll have to call them back and try to schedule a later travel date. Of course, if such possibilities become real, then I'll have some difficult choices to make, as it seems unlikely that I could work on such a show, probably filmed in LA, and still keep my current job. Moving would be awkward, and live(?) TV must be much different from the filmed-and-edited version that I'm "used to." Still, I'd be living closer to family, so that would be welcome. At this moment, things are quite far from that, and I certainly wouldn't mind a trip to CA to, at the very least, catch up with everyone who's out there. I'll be sure to keep you all posted (to the extent allowed); things could get quite interesting!
