Well, I guess that he didn't scoff, but I have no doubt in my mind that he was thinking "WTF?!?!" After all, God told him that his children would populate the earth, and then told him to kill his only son. He obviously followed God's command, but I refuse to believe that he wasn't hesitant or skeptical.
