It seems to me, and I've noticed this for a while now, that what it means to be "wise" is to look at the long-term effects that something can have on your well-being and act accordingly. Perhaps that's why people tend to act moreso toward selfish, short-term passions that, in a long-term sense are non-sensical rather the less attractive, long-termed ones.
