First, anyone thinking of taking a child to see this “comic book” movie should take the R rating seriously. I think I heard the MPAA ratings board has a threshold of the number of times a script can have “fuck” or “shit” and stay in PG land. Logan jumps that shark in ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm on the fence about going to see this one in the theater. I'm not super-keen on 'shocking violence in place of plot and/or character development,' and I worry that that's a lot of what's going on at the start of this movie from your (and other people's) description.

Both my wife and I are long-time X-Men fans, and she, in particular, is a fan of Wolverine. I tend to drop in and out of comic book reading (as money and time allows) so I'm not sure I ever read the Old Man Logan run. Do you think I should hunt up the comic books?

Logan and the Old Man Logan comic have nothing really in common except Logan as older, tired, and fed up with just about everything.

I think the movie does stay true to the character, though. The violence was excessive for my tastes; I watched several scenes through my fingers. The last act, however, makes up for the failings of the first.

Old Man Logan was a pretty good series. I'm sure your local library would love to find a copy for you : )
