I'm surprised Norman would even consider something like that, knowing their attitudes on anything "planet-friendly".

Boulder does curbside recycling. I have no idea how much it costs, but I think people here would die without it. Boulder's a pretty rich city, though, and people are willing to pay for that kind of stuff. There is ALWAYS a recycling bin anywhere you go.

The Penn & Teller epsiode on recycling said that the only thing that we recycle that it makes fiscal sense to recycle are aluminum and tin cans.

Metal is non-renewable.

Why not recycle everything you can as long as it is shown to help the environment and the community is willing to pay for it?

Oh, totally, it's just the 'shown to help the environment' part that's kinda murky.

A lot of people just assume that recycling and other green-friendly measures are helping the environment, but the fact is that very little actual research has been done and even less has been publicized.

I think recycling is one of those things that people can really get behind because it makes them feel good, like they're contributing something to the world at large. Do gooders feel high when they do good. The first time I ever offered a beggar a meal, he turned it down.

Also, there's the issue of sorting. Separate paper, plastic, glass, metal, etc.... The joke is when most of it ends up in the same dumps your garbage went to anyway.
