The garden bounty

I just realized that I should keep a running tab of what's come out of our garden so far. Suzi and I just harvested some from our red kale bunch and it came out to be 2.1 lbs. I'm going to estimate what we've already harvested in total as we've harvested several times on our kale. Not scientific, but hey, it's just for fun. So below are my ( Read more... )

I'm not keeping track but it seems we have fresh lettuce, spinach, and many colors of peppers each night for salads. We have tomatoes too but I don't eat those. We have had some little onions as well.

I forgot about our spinach, be we've only gotten maybe 1/2 a pound. This year our spinach has pretty much gone straight to bolt. It's annoying, as I love spinach, but our kale's making up for it. It only early in the year and we've got tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, long beans, kohlrabi, potatoes, peas, garlic, peppers, and Chinese squash that haven't produced yet, so we've got a lot more to go. Our kale will probably be harvestable all year round if it is anything like last year.

Dear Mr. Browning:

Hearing you talk about your harvest has made me wistful for the little apartment herb garden I had in the early nineties. There is nothing like fresh cilantro and Thai basil with one's scrambled eggs in the morning.

Sincerely,
Alphonso Warden

Fresh herbs and vegies are very nice. Our garden is, IMO, one of the biggest benefits of being in Ohio. We couldn't have done this in Dallas.
