Well, I'm not really drunk - just enjoying a few Dos Equis while watching The Family Stone. Excellent movie in one respect: I think they perfectly capture the insular quality of really close families. My family and I are guility of some of these traits, so I cringed a bit, even when Sarah Jessica Parker's character was being an uptight pill. ( Read more... )

You're so right about The Family Stone, man. I distinctly remember wincing - no, curling up in my seat! - during the scene at the dinner table when SJP's character started talking about how it must be "hard" to have a gay son. Ack, it was just so uncomfortable to watch, but so spot-on, y'know? And! Rachel McAdams was the absolute highlight for me - I'm sad (OK, maybe only a little sad) to say I've been almost that vicious to some of my older brothers' less than stellar girlfriends.

Yes!So damn uncomfortable. Although I contend that poor SJP got off easy - if someone at our dinner table had made a speech like that directed at my older brother (who is gay), blood would have been spilled. Literally. My sister would have gouged their eyes out. Not so civilized, the Tafoya clan.

LOL...I am totally the Rachel McAdam's character too! Before I met the Kid's recent girlfriend he told me, and I quote, "I really like this one, so go easy on her, okay?" And I was all, "Moi?!" *innocent eyelash fluttering* So don't feel bad! We are just being uh...protective! Yes!
