Activity ideas please!!!

Looking for ideas of places to go, activities to do and things to see with a 10 year old girl that I'm working with now.  ...preferrably inexpensive or free things, as we are on a budget.

We have sessions 4 hours in length twice a week...  any ideas?

Nature scavanger hunt... grab some paint chips from the local hardware store... the idea is to find things out and about that match the colours.

I'll try and brain storm some more for you. Active stuff, I take it?

Currently looking for ideas that are good for the dark, cold afternoon/evenings that I'm spending with her... ideally (but not strictly) in or near Burnaby/New Westminster area.

Today we went and checked out the Chrismas events that they had at the Burnaby Museum, and then went to the library and made paper snowflakes. Much fun! We also (while it was still light out) discovered that throwing rocks onto a partially frozen lake makes really ODD sounds!
