I also read Prozac Nation in high school and thought it was a woe-is-me-Jewish-rich-girl-goes-to-Harvard-does-coke-gets-felt-up-by-the-Butthole-Surfers-and-writes-lengthily-about-it kind of tale. But when Bitch came out, I did find it rather smart, so I saw her speak when she came to Boston. She actually strikes me as a very smart person, and I will admit that she is a damn good writer.

I think you have to take what she writes in a certain context. Yes, she's rich. No, she's not a perfect feminist. Yes, she makes dumb choices repeatedly in both experiences and words. But she is rather clever, and her books are worth reading.

I'd rather have girls read Bitch than Cunt anyday. Which promptly reminds me that we need to choose better titles for our books.

Ann Coulter is rather clever, but I'm not going to join her fucking club.
I don't tout athors who can only pass for vaguely intelligent when they're "put in a certain context." Having read the amazon review page I've gathered her most hardcore audience isn't discerning enough to realize she needs to be "put in a certain context," and I think it's irresponsible to let them go on praising/personifying her fuckedup idealisms just because she's "clever."
