be yourself goddammit

So now that I've gone through my website and deleted any images of me smoking cigarettes I best commence to deleting any images of ME in case any of my "impressionable 15-year-old" fans decide my thin thighs are license to start over-dieting, over-exercising, or otherwise harming themselves in want to be me. Best delete any and all images of my ( Read more... )

I did.
and
I guess.

(Naysayers who pick apart my publishing an old photograph of me smoking and use corporate computers and corporate hotmail accounts and probably corporate internet dial-ups to tell me how wrong I am in my former corporate-embracing glorifications. I use the same corporate computers and email accounts and internet connections, but I do so to be informing, to point out problems in systems, to make people question their own cooperations with these problematic systems -- use the evil evil to do good good. I DON'T fucking use it to make asinine and untrue character judgements about a person and all 220-some people who read said person's journal.)

:) I don't know of anyone who holds a pen like that.

I remember that being one of the first cigarettes I lit in a long long time -- certainly the first I'd ever smoked in my new dorm room.

If this picture had been taken two months before it would have been organic tobacco hand-rolled by my then-boyfriend. It had been taken six months later it wouldn't have been there at all. But what does that matter? What does a person changing matter? If you committed a wrong, once, you've done commit a wrong for all time!

I am pretty anti drug, yes. I've stayed away from everything for the majority of my life, save for the last year where I've drank socially and not-so-socially.

My feelings about drugs are definately odd to most people. I don't really push it politically, because I see both sides to it. I just don't like to be around drug use at all, it makes me really uncomfortable.

I think drugs are used so you can change yourself for a time. I think its escapism.

i think it's escapism too. sometimes it's creative escapism, sometimes it's destructive, dangerous. because that line is so thin, i've avoided it altogether.

Um, for one thing, what fifteen year old is going to take up smoking simply because you posted an image of yourself wielding a cigarette? Somebody's not giving fifteen year olds enough credit.

And besides, it's not your responsibility to be anyone's rolemodel. You can only live your own life and be accountable for your own actions. Everyone else is on their own.

I know of a couple people who do consider me a role model. While I know some people hate me enough to automatically write off anyone who likes me as a moron, in reality those that DO look up to me actually ARE intelligent enough to discern activity or thought that could and should be replicated -- they're not fucking sheep or swine -- just like you said, somebody's not giving fifteen year olds enough credit.

Not to mention there are probably a whole of TWO fifteen-year-olds actually reading my journal.

Not that facts or reality have any place in fucked up untrue blanket statements, right?

Can't I sue this person for using my images without my express written consent?

aah, judgementalism. smells great. snotrocket April 8 2003, 01:00:50 UTC
First, I'm not a lawyer, but you could probably sue them for libel, or defamation, or what the hell ever. I may be wrong, I don't know the letter of the law, but I think so ( ... )

i really really like the fact that they spelled tobacco 'tabacco,' anyway.

that makes me want to give them a lot of credit. ;)
