Summary: Love, weed, scrabbles, frank ocean, and alcohol. Sexual urges during scrabble.
Words from a crack person. Crack rock. Crack rock. Honestly, why did I write this?
Tiffany was an erratic, crazy person, and hopelessly crazy in love with the person sitting across her; Jessica. If Tiffany was considered crazy then Jessica was crazy too. It takes a crazy person to fall in love with another crazy. Possibly the only two people on this earth who would have sexual desires for each other during a scrabble game.
There were two other people with them; Taeyeon and Junsu. They were the couple who invited Tiffany and Jessica all the time to a game of goddamn scrabble. The couple whom everybody avoided. Tiffany and Jessica just had bad timing when they first moved into the building.
Scrabble. Tiffany rolled her eyes at the first mention of it but soon grew to liking the company and the game. The couple laughed like uncles and aunties sitting in an old café, chatting away about their youth like a broken record. So behind their backs, Tiffany named them the old bunch. But they were good people and had weed and alcohol.
It would certainly be a waste, Tiffany once said to Jessica after they talked about the afternoon’s activity involving scrabble and lots of weed. In which Jessica sulked like a little girl who couldn’t have candy. She didn’t want candy. She wanted afternoon sex, movies, and sex.
We have all the time in the world for that, Tiffany assured her lovingly. Weed and alcohol did make up for Jessica’s mood after all. Sexual urges were still there and only been amplified. They had to behave infront of Taeyeon and Junsu. From what they learned, the old bunch were pretty conservative about those stuff.
On a Saturday afternoon, Tiffany and Jessica came to visit the old bunch like they always do, bringing their own wine with them to celebrate the promotion Junsu just got at some firm.
Few good minutes just passed, and the bottles popped open, glasses filled, air polluted with smoke, then came the scrabble. Everybody was smoking, killing their lungs, wanting to die young. Death; it was one of the topics they used to discuss. And everybody had agreed it was good to die young. Young enough to have seen it all and let go.
Tiffany wondered what would they discuss today besides the growing boredom she got from Junsu’s story on his work. Or the gardening classes Taeyeon had been taking. Jessica scoffed at the mention of plants. The only living green thing here was a cactus, sitting on the window pane which was covered in dust. The song ‘Crack Rock’ by Frank Ocean started to play on the radio.
“L-O-V-E. Done.” Junsu announced after placing the tiles on the board. “That reminds me, how’s the book going on, Tiffany? Still on the love theme?”
“The editor’s on it right now. And as for love theme, Jessica’s here to fuel my inspiration.” Tiffany glanced at Jessica, smiling. “I’ll make sure you and Taeyeon get the first copies.”
“Nothing too sad, I hoped.” Taeyeon added as she had her eyes on the small tiles, figuring out what word to come up. “Couldn’t get over the previous one.”
Tiffany laughed gladly. Jessica sipped her wine. When her glass was empty, Tiffany leaned forward over the table to pour her another. Jessica looked up to her. Her chin resting on her palm. Their faces were only inches away. She had a certain smile pasted on. The subtle teasing kind of smile that could make Tiffany’s insides go all jumpy and weird. It makes her mad at times.
They were the couple whom everybody else was annoyed with. Because their relationship was still very much in the honeymoon phase. Junsu and Taeyeon were the only people who didn’t find it infuriating.
“Thank you.” Jessica said, giving her one of those smiles again.
“Kitten, stop smiling like that or I’ll go crazy.” Tiffany quickly gave a brief kiss on Jessica’s lips. Taeyeon cleared her throat and Tiffany returned to her seat.
“Let’s talk about love.” Jessica looked at Junsu and Taeyeon. “How did you two fell in love?”
“I fell in love at first sight.” Taeyeon said cheerfully, eyes locked with Junsu’s.
“I fell in love with her voice first and then at her sight.” Junsu grinned.
While the both of them were busy looking at each other, Tiffany stucked her tongue out and put her finger in her mouth. Jessica giggled quietly.
“What about you two?” Junsu turned his head in Tiffany’s direction.
“Oh, I don’t know. I don’t believe in those first sights or whatever. Love just came and hit me in the face literally. With a bag accidentally.” Tiffany narrowed her eyes at Jessica who was blushing at the old incident. “It’s one of those things that just turns up unexpectedly. I never really knew about love until Jessica came. Aside love from family, friends, or things. Those are the kind of loves we all know, right?”
The three of them listened intently at every word Tiffany said. It was like a gathering of children and a storyteller. Tiffany had that kind of magic in her. She was borned with it. Hanging on every word she said.
“Love grew in so many unusual ways. I didn’t know what to describe it at first. Jessica does funny things to me even when she’s not directly doing it. Sometimes she makes me incredibly mad and incredibly happy. Very scary, I’d say. It has that power where it makes one very happy. But it also means it could make them really really sad. I didn’t want to label this feeling as love. It was absurd and a foreign feeling. I didn’t know what it was until I just accept it.” Tiffany traced her finger around the rim of the glass, knowing Jessica was still looking at her with bright red cheeks.
She continued, “Love can be a noun, a verb, and an adjective.” She pulled in the cigarrete and heaved out the smoke.
Junsu furrowed his forehead while Taeyeon leaned a little closer to Tiffany. They looked like confused children. Kind of funny, actually, Tiffany realized. They laughed like aged people but looked like 13 year old’s in some fleeting moments.
“How so?” Junsu asked out of curiosity.
“Jessica is love. I use her as a noun. I’ll say, Love is at the shop, or working. If love had another name, it would be Jessica’s.” A teasing smile was spread across Tiffany’s lips. “As for verb, I love Love. I love weed and alcohol.”
“More than me?” Jessica asked jokingly.
“Never more than you, love.” The next song that was played was ‘Think Bout You.’ It was Jessica’s favourite. “Adjective… This feeling is love. Jessica is love. Lovable. Love is Jessica. Unexplainable. Words wouldn’t do you justice, love. No matter how many perfect little words I put into a book in describing about you, it will always be an understatement.”
“You are Love, Jessica. The greatest of all. It’s the law of the universe.”
Tiffany picked up her tiles and arranged them as J-E-S-S-I-C-A on the board. In result, the old bunch argued against Tiffany about the rules and how names were invalid to use in scrabbles.
In the midst of all of this, Jessica’s foot was playing with Tiffany’s. A signal that Jessica always used if she wanted to get out and have their own ‘activity’.
