*sigh* Sometimes I just want to smack people upside the heads. One of the arguments I've seen defending the Kentucky clerk for refusing to sign gay marriage licenses is that her job *changed*. She didn't sign up for a job knowing that she'd have to do something against her principles, that wasn't part of her job when she agreed to work. Now it is.

I agree that she's completely wrong. The problem is that if this were reversed, most of my friends would be cheering her on. THAT I have an issue with.
Most social change in this country isn't made by people being quiet, and that's what she's looking to do.
Something else to consider - if she quietly left, her prejudices are not confronted. The only way that things change are when we bring the worst of our behaviors into the light and ask "IS THIS WHAT WE ALL ARE?"
Anger and prejudice like this that are not confronted do nothing but grow. So, yea - I want her to fight loud and long, then fail VERY publicly.

I never said she had to go quietly. She can make as much noise as she wants on her way out the door. That's her constitutional right of free speech. What she shouldn't get to do is collect $80K taxpayer dollars a year and not fulfill her legal obligations of her office.
