For the last several years, I've maintained a Group Me for conventions. This is a web-based service that allows you to enter your phone number, join a particular Group Me (or be added by the moderator), and then send a regular SMS text message to the Group Me phone number that will then be relayed to everyone else in the group. I sent a text (which read "Join!") to the number and got back, "Sorry, but you are not a member of this group. Text #new to start a new group."

I'm heading to the website now.

And when I went to your link ( groupme dot com slash join_group slash 149025 slash ZbRnVt? ) I ended up at a "Sorry, but this group is no longer joinable," page. Curses!

The link just worked for me. After I created my account and verified my phone, it redirected me to the Android app store. Nifty.

Whoa, this is badass.

I won't be at this particular thing, but I will try to remember it the next time it'll be useful (which I am sure it will be at some point).
