I wandered around the ballroom, feeling sleepy and bored, waiting for my crew chief to give me a job to do but not really wanting him to come up with anything because I was too sleepy to really be in the mood for work that day. Thanks for that link. It crystallises something I've sensed for years, but never quite had the words to explain. As my intolerance of passive aggressive behaviour has increased, I've tended more and more towards the "Ask Culture" side.

Yes, and this sort of situation baffles and frustrates me. Clearly, the Guess Culture method isn't working, since I'm often asked by my coworkers to give a "female perspective" because no one seems to understand their own partners. I've responded with things like "How am I supposed to know what she'd like? I've never met her!" and "I can guarantee that my own answer to that question won't match your girlfriend's answer!"

It's people like that who spawn such gems of songs as "I don't know what I did to deserve you, but I'm glad you like me" (that's a paraphrase, I can't remember the name of the song). It's terrifying how many people do not know their partners, and make little to no effort to get to know them ( ... )
