*hugs* It's always sad when a loved member of the family passes. :(

I recently went through something like this with my old cat, Fyiara. So I understand completely what you are going through, how you feel, how you have to pause and recover. How you have to struggle not to cry. But, you do all you can for them, anything to make them happy and comfortable as best you can. It's all you can ultimately do, and the cat does appreciate it. They do understand it. So, your efforts are not wasted; you're letting a friend, family, spend its final time with those that love it. It's the kindest thing you can do, even if it breaks your heart.

I wish for you a miracle, or at the worst, that Loki will pass quietly, loved, and at peace in the end.

Thank you. I still fret over the instructions I have (still standing) from the vet. Twice a day, the kitty gets antibiotics, administered by this little "syringe" that I have to squirt into the cat's mouth. Weak as the cat may be, he still fights over that, and if I'm not careful, a good amount of it will end up flung all over as the cat whips his head back and forth, spraying it from the sides of his mouth. (The stuff smells horrid. I can't blame him.)

If the cat's going to die anyway, why bother with that? But the cat is very vulnerable to further sickness, so I suppose the threat is that he might linger on long enough and catch something that makes him even more miserable. So I carry on ( ... )

Yesterday, when I already had to rouse him to give him his medicine and to try to coax him to eat some food (he just licked a bit at some wet cat food leftovers I re-microwaved for him so it wouldn't be fridge-cold), I gingerly carried him outside. I first put him on the hood of the (recently used) car, since once upon a time that seemed to be his favorite spot to lurk outside (second favorite being a pile of leaves I had piled up but left for way too long near the front door) -- but he immediately seemed to be trying to get down, but too weak to manage the leap. So, I took him down and put him on the driveway concrete ( ... )
