In spite of the scientific gaffes (many of which can't be blamed on the author, as at the time this was written not even scientists had the sort of detailed knowledge of the Solar System and astrobiology which we have now), this story succeeds brilliantly as a story, typical of Hamilton's work. I didn't see the solution coming until I was only a couple of paragraphs short of it, and it was carried off brilliantly. I hope you put up more stories by Hamilton soon. :-)
