A Sad but Funny Irony - American Blacks, the Arabs and the Slave Trade

Aug 13, 2011 06:49

In the early to mid 20th century, American Jews were the main allies of American blacks in the black struggle to gain equal civil rights. Then, when American blacks did gain equal rights, said blacks promptly decided to ally with the Arabs and hate Jews. Despite the fact that the Arabs were the group that had ENSLAVED THE BLACKS IN THE FIRST PLACE. ( Read more... )

My incredibly liberal professor in college who specialized in Africa spent two classes talking about this. Slavery in Africa that is. He even said it was other African tribes who had just beaten another tribe and decided to make a buck on the prisoners of war. Of course, those who purchased slaves were just as bad imho but I remember how shocked people were when he said this ( ... )

It partly inspired me to write my paper comparing Malcolm X to Magneto and Martin Luther King Jr to Professor X. My professor gave me an A and asked if he could keep a copy. XD

That's Amazing.

I had fun writing it. My teacher was a huge geek so when it came time for a final paper in the Recent America class, I asked if I could write such a paper. He agreed as long as I used examples from the sources we used in class etc.

I wish I kept that paper too. That paper and my 20 pager for Japanese Art and Culture in which I showed how mono no aware is illustrated in modern Japanese Pop Culture. *sighs* I love when educators encourage creativity.

But massa Sharpton ans massa Jackson said we avrage folks is not to good in thinkin ans stuf...........

Sorry I must end my sarcasm because I was informed my bro card was pulled in 1984 for becoming a Republican.

I was aghast when a young Black was told I needed to read the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. I saw this as utter hypocrisy. The problem is the leftist ideology of the black leadership.
Then again why do I need a American Black Leadership. I can think for myself. One reason I could never live in a black community or any person idea of community . I am and indivisual; I not going to lock step with the community or the so called leadership.

Jordan, I feel the exact same way. It is both horribly sad and horribly ironic that in choosing arab names to distance themselves from their past as slaves they have only stumbled onto an even older version of slavery long past. That they hate the Jews who actually never harmed them almost makes it a farcical tragedy.

Yes, they did. When you have a richer and more civilized nation, a poorer and less civilized nation, and a common institution of slavery between them, the sale of human beings for higher-tech weapons and luxuries is inevitable. Another similar trade was that of Slavs through early Medieval Europe, from whence the English word "slave" originates. In that trade, most of the slavers were whites of various ethnicities.

"The reason they very rarely did so is that the European ships had very small crews, the African villages were part of organized tribal kingdoms, and the warriors of said kingdoms had perfectly good metal weapons, and were not at all afraid to use them."

That's how one of my European ancestors (once a Mediterranean sailor) ended up a slave to a plantation owner... in Northern Africa.
