Affirmative Action in the Oval Office

James Lewis, in "The Lesson of an Affirmative Action President" (American Thinker, http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/01/the_lesson_of_an_affirmative_a.html) make the point that America elected Obama largely because he was black, without ( Read more... )

Chris Matthews emphasized this beautifully last night.

"I forgot he was black tonight for an hour."

He broke a major rule of Liberalism, admitting that race always factors into their thinking.

I hadn't read that article yet. Looking at your excerpts it sounds as if he's dead on.

Is it wrong that I want Chris Matthews to get throat cancer?

Yes its wrong, but it's 100% normal.

It is also wrong for me to want him to die in a fire.

wrong wrong wrong.

Add "for him to be skinned alive" and we're definitely on the same page, same paragraph, same line, same . . .

I suspect he got elected *despite* being black...

That said...it's ironic that the Dems seem to have voted a stealth Republican in.

Okay I'm confused here, are you saying Obama is a 'stealth Republican'?

If that's what's being said, it's not true. Obama is merely following the directives of his ideological and tactical predecessors. From Marx, he gets the notion that anything he (as "The State") says is completely acceptable - lies told for the purposes of the State are not only not exceptional: they are the way things are meant to be. And from Hitler, you can take the famous quote about the Big Lie.

You don't pick brain surgeons by the color of their skin. You pick them by competence only.

That is a very nice thought, and arguably the only correct route to take, unfortunately America is still a long ways from dismissing racial politics or the practice of assigning value to race when it comes to elected officials (or anyone really).

We are a nation where race still counts for a great deal, either for or against you.

One of the points someone brought up on a blog I read during the election was - what if the "first black President" ever is an utter failure, with no ability to do the job? What message does that send the country about blacks?

Far better to have competent Presidents, so that when the day comes, we can all be proud of a "historic first", rather than having this one go down as the "Black Jimmy Carter".

There is that. I loathe Obama, but he's already failing, and I have nightmares about what that will do to the black community. A strong backlash is already building against Obama and his administration, and that could prove to be a hideous legacy for the future of this country. Why didn't they run someone like this guy? http://polaris93.livejournal.com/1860623.html -- Oh, right: he's a patriot, he's a US Marine, he's well-educated, he knows the Constitution like the back of his hand, he's got guts, you know, all the things that liberals and the Left despise.

I asked this question. I'm not sure if I asked it on my journal, or via talking to people (e.g. AIM / face to face chat)... and yeah, I dunno what message this will send to the people who are TRULY racist.
