The Dunwich Horror (2009 Movie)

I just saw the most hilariously-bad adaptation of a really-good Lovecraft story imaginable. I mean it's almost up there with Manos, the Hands of Fate for sheer idiocy.

Basically, imagine The Dunwich Horror set in modern Louisiana. Now imagine that the whole point of the story is given away in the first five minutes of the movie. Now imagine ( Read more... )

At least Cast a Deadly Spell knew it was a campy noir take on Lovecraft. And I enjoyed it, too!

My favorite Lovecraft story is The Outsider.

We found ours in a used bin at the video store.
There are usually some copies on eBay.

yeah, i watched it with my oldest son, and we picked it apart pretty badly. i think i'm most offended by movable magical SUMERIAN pyramids. ummm, they had ZIGGURATS. but i agree the whole thing was the WORST lovecraftish movie i have ever seen, and that's saying a lot.

Oh yes, the Rubik's Pyramid thingie. That was a combination of the Shining Trapezohedron and the Marchand's Box.

I missed on first pass that this was an '09 movie. It sounds like it has far more in common with really terrible '70s horror- it made a lot more sense reading it that way.
