Silence versus Speaking Out for Freedom in Iran

What we need now is some way to run guns to the Iranians. If our government won't do it, maybe we could hire mercs who are really good at their jobs to do it, given that we also provide the guns. And no matter what, we must not remain silent on this matter. Not to mention not do something as heartlessly idiotic as this: http://www.switched.com/2009/06/26/u-k-furniture-company-uses-iran-to-promote-self/?icid=main|htmlws-main|dl5|link4|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.switched.com%2F2009%2F06%2F26%2Fu-k-furniture-company-uses-iran-to-promote-self%2F One wonders what Robert A. Heinlein would have said on the matter. Maybe he didn't foresee the Internet and the Web, but so what? He knew tyranny when he saw it, and loathed theocracies. Too bad he isn't with us now to give his thoughts about it.

Running guns would be so easy- with Afghanistan and it porous border on the east and Iraq on its West we could have plausible deniabilty big time. Especially if Iran is used as a cut-out- remember Iranians are Persians and Iraqis Arabs/Kurds so there is no love lost there (never mind religious differences).

If Barry wanted to a covert gun running program could be put together PDQ- maybe we can even give all of those Iranian IEDs found in Iraq back to the freedom fighters in Iran (I somehow find that poetic in some Ayatollah being blown up by an IED the Iranians have categorically denied manufacturing).

I can't see Obama approving this, though. He'd argue that we need to "maintain good relations with Iran," and scotch the plan.

I wonder if Azerbaijan or Turkmenistan will take our money under the table, either hiding from Russia or give Russia some form of quiet money, and then send arms and whatever means to certain military leaders in Iran. At the same time, we need to convince Russia that, it is better off to have a pro-west Iran then a theocratic Iran because the latter will always be a supply origin of any Islamic uprising within Russia.

Azerbaijan is an fantastic choice because we can supply them either via Turkey, or Georgia, or in the worse case, Armenia (her enemy). I am sure money talks, so all three options should be fine, especially if we dangle a NATO membership in front of them.

Again, as long as we talk Russia to stay out of it, everything should work.

This is the treatment that Britain earned for its dependents, when she failed to treat the capture of the British sailors in 2007 as an act of war and to make Iran pay for it by capturing or sinking Iranian vessels. Britain signalled to Iran at that point "We won't stand up for our own," so why should Iran respect the British now?
