The universe seemed intent to ravage them, savage them, systematically destroy everything they loved; everything they cared for and fought for.

The rift churned out unspeakable evil.

It spat back the taken and the broken.

The darkness waited for them and they knew they would join it soon enough.

But right now, the three stood in the Plass and watched the snow fall in the moonlight of the early hours.

The already fallen blanket muffled the sounds of the world, hid the grime of the streets and filled their lives with enough hope to come back and fight again tomorrow.

Spoilers: Sort of for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Ianto watched Jack move around the Hub as if he’d never been away. It seemed filled again now; like a puzzle piece had slotted back in and filled a hole.

Except there was something not quite right with the puzzle piece. It fit okay, but didn’t quite complete the overall picture. It was damaged; frayed around the edges, colours faded and mute. The glossy finish a little tarnished, not quite so bright; not obviously, just a hint to the trained eye when you tilted it against the light.

Ianto wondered what it would take to make the picture whole again.
