“What is it?” asked Ianto as they all gathered around the object.
“It’s a MacGuffin.” Jack answered.
“A mac what now?” replied Owen.
“A MacGuffin. It’s an object that serves no purpose in and of itself, but lazy writers stick them in stories to move the plot along and give the characters motivation. You see a lot of them in this writer’s universe.”
“Oh, a bit like the way we react to things that have happened off the page because she can’t think of a decent actual plot?” Toshiko asked.
“Exactly.” confirmed Jack.
“It is very shiny though.” said Gwen.
