Y'know, as I was remembering the image last night that's exactly how it seemed to me (reminiscent of Parrish, that is). Good to know I'm not alone.
If I were a painter, I'd try to do a Parrish-style version of it. I bet he would have made the sky more dramatic and enlarged the moon, but that shouldn't be any surprise. He never claimed to be a photographic realist.
Thanks! It was one of those "Monkey see, monkey photograph" things -- I only just barely thought about the composition, because it seemed to set itself. (I did try a zoomed one, to make the moon larger and easier to see, but without the reflection in the water it lacked something.)
Beautiful. I especially love the color shadings you captured. It's making my fingers itch for some aida and embroidery floss and a cross stitch pattern grid.
(Not that, y'know, I have enough patterning experience to manage something that complex and subtle, but I wish I did...)
(Oh, and I haven't totally forgotten your email from April, all appearances to the contrary. My inbox has been swamped and the whole dad-care-from-a-distance thing has been... grinding. By the end of the day I don't usually have much energy left for email. But one of these days...)
There's a free pattern generator at the Victoria & Albert website that will create a pixilated pattern for you. Billed as intended for quilts but presumably usable for cross-stitch patterns too:
I've been somewhat swamped (as witness the delay here), so you needn't worry about taking a while on email. I certainly know about grinding, and you have my sympathy.
If you do embroider the thing, I definitely want to see the result. I could think about taking up painting just to fake a Parrish version of this, with a larger moon...

As they said above, very Maxfield Parrish.
