I really like dosas. It is easy to get commercial dosa batter in many places, but with Persons of My Stripe there is always something of a “How does this actually work?” issue, so I trust it will come as no surprise that I decided to see what it takes to do it yourself ( Read more... )

Woot!! I hope I can get up there in June, and maybe I'll get a chance to look for one.

Thanks for mentioning them!

You are thoroughly welcome! Please keep me posted. As I say, mine are "tomato sandwich made by amateur tomato-sandwich maker" [if you remember Roger Price's "Droodles"], but they sure taste good. Hope yours will, too, and hope you'll have fun doing them.

And for those of us who haven't previously encountered said "Droodles", this Etsy listing has a photo of several that includes the tomato sandwich in question.

That item, alas, has already sold, but there are several droodles (including the one I mentioned) on this page. I like the fact that Price himself sometimes had more than one caption for a particular Droodle. (e.g., "Mother pyramid feeding her baby" for the one usually given as "Ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch".)

It's awfully nice to know the person who can think his way through ANYTHING and then make it happen. Come the apocalypse, expect me on your doorstep.

Believe me, I ain't the only one who can do that sorta thing; yesterday I attended part of the USA Science and Engineering Festival, where I saw a ton of evidence of similar activity. I also saw They Might Be Giants [twice!], which was a huge treat.

As to the apocalypse, I could wonder whether we get that or some sort of singularity... I don't offhand see much chance for both unless the singularity is of the type in which the machines decide to eliminate the messy goo, in which case they become one and the same, at least as far as we're concerned. (Don't mind me; I'm just having a cynical morning.)
