it was indeed cheaper. in fact, the only colonists who got pissed off about it were the local merchants who couldn't compete with the dirt-cheap prices of the EIC tea. and, of course, the radicals who were looking for an excuse to stir shit up.
product taxes all-round were mostly cheaper than they were before the Acts. the kicker was that they were enforcing them this time. smugglers couldn't just dodge the ships anymore; extra personnel were brought in.

good ol' U.S. of A... founded on temper tantrums and tax-dodging.
