Chapter Five: Funny Feeling
Jonghyun: Age 14
Jonghyun ducked under the awnings of the small shop in front of him, as he ran out of the rain. The grey sky above him let out a low rumble, threatening to rain harder. Jonghyun shivered and pulled his jacket more over his shoulders a little more, trying to keep himself warm. How did the weather suddenly turn so bad? Just a few hours ago, there was the sun in the sky, and the fall day wasn’t quite as cold. Oh well. It was days like this that Jonghyun was thankful that he didn’t have any school clubs or classes on Saturdays, and could go straight home to warm up and do nothing.
Jonghyun glanced in front of him as he opened the door to the small coffee shop in front of him. He had gone into town that morning to help his mother carry some boxes into her office, and was on his way back home. However, as he ran through the rain in order to get to the bus stop, the idea of hot chocolate played oh-so-irresistibly in his mind too many times, and he finally caved into it. He dug his hand wrist deep into his baggy jean pockets and felt around for his money. He only had a little in that pair of jeans (he didn’t believe in keeping a wallet, for he believed that it was too likely to be stolen or lost that way, so he kept his money in various pockets of each pair of jeans he had), and he wondered if he had enough for a small hot chocolate. He smiled contently as he noticed that it was only three dollars, and he had seven.
“Hello, how can I help you?” The barista asked, as Jonghyun walked up to the counter. Jonghyun pulled his money out of his pocket and glanced back up at the menu one more time. “Unn, can I have a small hot chocolate?” He asked after a moment, making sure he was ordering the right thing (he never had good luck while ordering things). The barista smiled and nodded. “That’ll be three-fifty please.” She said, hitting a few buttons on the cash-register. Jonghyun half nodded and held out his four dollars, before suddenly, something struck his mind like lightning.
“Jonghyun, you have to promise me you’ll meet me at the park on Saturday, okay!? I’ve hardly even seen you since you started High School, and I miss you already, okay? Promise you’ll meet me no matter what!!”
The barista smiled before taking the corner of the money that Jonghyun wasn’t holding, trying to pull it out of his grasp. However, the strange teenager in front of her only stood completely still, eyes as wide as apples, as he stared off into a far away distance. “U-ugh…I’ll take the money now…” She started quietly, after a moment.
Jonghyun’s eyes were as wide as they possibly could be, and he stood, frozen in fear. “Oh shoot, Kibum!!!” He snapped quickly, remembering what Kibum had said to him on their last meeting. He completely forgot! How the heck could he forget!? Kibum was going to be so pissed! Suddenly, there was a sharp clap of thunder, and a flash of lightning. Before the barista could even blink, she was holding the four dollars herself, and Jonghyun was out of the coffee shop, and half way across the street.
“Shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot! Kibum’s going to kill me!!” Jonghyun’s mind played over and over, as he ran across the street as quickly as he could, having to push through the now heavy rain in order to even walk. The icy cold water poured down his back, and froze him, causing for goosebumps to crawl up and down his arms, but as there was another clap of thunder, and a flash of lightning, Jonghyun’s run turned into a sprint, and he began to use everything he had to make his way to the park.
As he finally ran into the park, Jonghyun looked around frantically for the angry little face he was so worried about. He looked at the swing set, but it was completely empty. The marry-go-round was completely empty too. The sand box had already turned into a miniature pond due to the heavy downpour of icy cold rain, and the shovels and buckets began to float around in it like miniature boats. The playground seemed completely empty, but Jonghyun didn’t give up. He knew he was there somewhere.
Kibum hugged his knees tightly as his warm crystal tears began falling down his cold cheeks, which were already dripping off the freezing water of the rain that poured onto him. As there was a loud clap of thunder, he pressed his chest against his knees as closely as he could; trying to curl into a small ball, and thus trying to escape from the scary situation he had fallen into. He was so scared, and so cold, and Superman was nowhere to be found.
Jonghyun stumbled through the flooding park frantically, running as quickly as he could, but still searching as thoroughly as his little eyes could search. The rain continued to fall harshly from the angry heavens above and made a hard pounding noise on the plastic roof of the play structures. Jonghyun gnawed his lip and was about to scream out Kibum’s name, when he heard a soft whimper and a light little cry coming from under the play gym. Jonghyun’s eyes were quickly pulled up and immediately found the source of the crying. His heart thudded with relief, but also with the pain of knowing that he was the reason why Kibum was crying, hiding under the little protection that the plastic play gym offered, scared and alone in a bad thunder storm. Jonghyun quickly ran forward towards Kibum.
Kibum let out another quiet cry and clamped his eyes shut tightly as lightning flashed in his eyes. He quickly covered his ears the best he could, knowing that the thunder was next. It wasn’t that he was a scaredy cat or anything, but being stuck alone in a flooding park during a bad thunder storm was enough to terrify him. Not to mention the fact that he had kept praying that Jonghyun would show up any moment and take him away, but he never did. Not for two and a half hours. Kibum began to doubt he’d ever come. He squeezed his head between his two palms, desperate to block out the noise of the thunder, but didn't prevail.
Kibum shivered and shook with fear as the thunder became more constant, almost to the point that it seemed like it never stopped rumbling. This was probably the worse thunder storm he had ever been in, for every time the thunder would crack, it would vibrate and shake the plastic gym, which was his only protection from the heavy rain. He buried his head between his knees and closed his eyes tighter, continuing to plug his ears.
Suddenly, Kibum stopped completely, upon feeling warm (although slightly wet) arms wrap around his shoulders, and himself being pulled close to a comforting chest. He stayed still for a moment, as he felt himself being hugged closely, before slowly reopening one eye, glancing up at the one who had suddenly appeared and hugged him tightly against himself.
Jonghyun unzipped his jacket and took it off before gently draping it around Kibum’s shivering shoulders, before pulling him closely against the still-dry sweater he was wearing under it. The dripping younger boy reopened one eye before looking up quickly. Jonghyun looked at him apologetically before pulling him closer to get him more out of the rain. “Kibum…I’m sorry…” He whispered, quietly. Kibum shook a little, his cheeks slightly pink, and his dark eyes wide. “J-Jonghyun…?” He asked, quietly. Jonghyun pulled him closer. “I’m sorry I’m late…” He whispered. Kibum kept staring at him. “Jonghyun…” He stuttered out. Jonghyun softened and went to kiss the younger boy’s wet forehead, only to have Kibum protest and began hitting his chest furiously.
“JONGHYUN YOU BIG JERK!” Kibum screamed loudly, whacking Jonghyun’s chest as quickly as he could, tears still falling down his cheeks. Jonghyun backed up from trying to kiss his forehead, but accepting his punishment, and allowed Kibum to continue beating on his chest. Kibum began hitting harder. “Jonghyun, I HATE you!! I hate you! You made me wait for two and a half hours in the pouring down rain and storm for you!! I hate you! How could you forget about me like that!?!” He yelled quickly, tears following down his cheeks. Jonghyun glanced down slowly, and didn’t try to back away from the younger boy’s hits, only accepted them. “I’m sorry…Kibum…I'm really sorry…” He muttered, quietly. Kibum hit him again furiously. “You have no idea how scared I was here by myself! Where the heck were you!?!” He yelled quickly.
Jonghyun looked at Kibum with shaky eyes of pure and genuine grief before pulling him close against his chest again, trying to keep him as warm and as dry as he could. He closed his eyes and rested his cheek against the top of the younger boy’s head, and hugged him tighter. “I’m so sorry, Kibum. I’m guilty. And, I won’t deny that I forgot. I’m so sorry.” He whispered, quietly. “A-and I’m so sorry that I let you down again. I’m so sorry I failed you, and let you become scared. I’m supposed to be your superman, but Superman never allowed for the one he loved most become scared the way I did. I’m so sorry, Kibum.” He added, genuinely.
Kibum stayed still for a moment, in Jonghyun’s tight hug. His ear was pressed close against the latter’s chest, and he could hear the soft “Ba-bump” of his heart beating. His jacket and undershirt were warm, and he held him so closely that he immediately stopped his shivering. Kibum blushed slightly before closing his eyes, grasping Jonghyun’s shirt tightly, burying his face in it. “I kept worrying that you wouldn’t come for me…Jonghyun. Th-that you would just forget about me, and leave me waiting out here for you, forever. I was scared…” He cried, quietly. Jonghyun stopped and stayed still for a moment. Kibum pushed himself more into his arms and held him tightly. “I was so scared that I would have to be alone, and that you weren’t going to be with me anymore…Jonghyun, I was really scared without you…” Kibum cried into his shirt, squeezing him painfully tightly.
Jonghyun glanced down slowly at Kibum before gently pushing his chin back up slowly. Kibum looked up at him slowly, crystal tears falling from his dark eyes as he stared up at him. Jonghyun gently began to push the tears off of Kibum’s cheeks, but his eyes were stuck on Kibum’s shining eyes. What was the funny feeling he had inside of him? He knew he always loved Kibum a lot, but all of a sudden, Kibum was the only thing he could see. He was the only thing he could think of, and he was everything that seemed important to Jonghyun. Suddenly, before his eyes Kibum turned into the most precious treasure in the whole entire world, and Jonghyun felt himself wanting to treasure him. But he had never felt that way before. He liked to hug Kibum tightly, or kiss his forehead, but he had never felt this funny feeling inside of him before. He swallowed slightly as he finished wiping the tears off of Kibum’s cheekbone, but gently caressed his cheek with his hand, continuing to hold his head up to look at him. He hardly even knew what he was doing before he found himself leaning down and gently pressing his lips against Kibum’s cold lips gently.
Kibum stayed completely still for a moment, as Jonghyun slowly began to kiss him. It was the funniest feeling at first, but he felt his heart shift up, and his eyes automatically close. And, whether he meant to or not, he felt himself lean forward, allowing their lips to fit together gently.
After just a few moments, Jonghyun reopened his eyes quickly, and backed up abruptly, breaking their clumsy first kiss. Kibum reopened his eyes slowly, but kept staring up at him, for once in his life, remaining silent. Jonghyun swallowed slowly, after a moment, before glancing back down. “I-if…I could use that as I promise…I want to promise that I’ll never leave you all alone, Kibum…” He stuttered, quietly. Suddenly, he noticed Kibum smiled widely before quickly moving up, squishing their lips back together for another incredibly clumsy and rather awkward second kiss.

Chapter Six: The Only Power Stronger than Caffeine Is the Body’s NEED for Sleep
Jonghyun; age 20.
Jonghyun closed his eyes tighter as he felt something hitting against the top of his head ruthlessly. “Ack! Jonghyun, that feels really funny…” The cute voice resounded in his head. Jonghyun half smiled and buried his head more into the crook of his arms. “If it feels funny, why did you do it again, dummy?” He asked, voice light like he was about to laugh.
Kibum glanced down quickly and blushed furiously. “B-because it feels….n-nice t-too…” He muttered, quietly.
Jonghyun moved slightly in his sleep as he hitting on the top of his head continued, but didn’t wake from his memory. “Yah, you’re still all wet…” He muttered after a moment. Lee Jinki, who happened to be the one who was hitting the top of his head with two pencils to try to wake him, stop completely and stared at him blankly. “Woah…who would have thought that this guy is such a pervert…?” He thought, slowly. He had enough of playing around, and really had to wake his classmate up this time. He quickly clapped in his ear and hit the top of his head with a quick flick of his wrist. “KIM JONGHYUN, WAKE UP!!!” He called loudly.
Jonghyun shot up quickly, his eyes wide as he woke from his memory. “Wah!? Ah!? What’s going on!?!” He asked, quickly. He looked around himself quickly. Next to him was his knocked over coffee cup (he knocked it over as he moved around in his sleep), a few notes on composing writen in his sleepy and messy handwriting on his note book, and a rather amused looking Jinki sitting next to him, laughing to himself. He quickly looked forward, to the front of the room, where his professor stood, looking like he was just about to finally have enough and snap. It was one thing for Jonghyun to fall asleep in class again, but it was another thing for him to be talking loudly in his sleep during class.
“Kim Jonghyun, do you care to give me a reason for not only falling asleep in my class, but interrupting it with perverse sleep talking as well?” The professor finally asked, after a moment of trying to compose himself and stop himself from exploding at his student again. Jonghyun’s eyes were wide (but still blood shot). “I was talking in my sleep…? Sh-shit! What kind of things was I saying!? I was having a really old flash back!” He thought quickly. He quickly scratched the back of his head nervously before looking apologetically at his professor. “I’m really sorry for disturbing class, Professor. R-really, I am. I-it’s just that I haven’t been sleeping well lately, and I guess I just really needed to fall asleep right then. P-please forgive me, it won’t happen again!” He managed to spit out, trying to apologize the best he could.
His professor however, seemed less-than-impressed with his Jonghyun’s quick tongue, and stared at him angrily. “Then, if you’re so tried that you can’t even stay awake for class, why don’t you just go home, and not bother the rest of the students in this class who actually want to learn, and don’t fall asleep in class!?” He snapped quickly. Jonghyun sweated a little before glancing around the room. Even though Jonghyun knew that no one except for the strange studyholic Lee Onew actually cared about learning, he figured that he better do the best thing to try to show his sincerity to his professor by showing that actually wasn’t feeling well, and should go home to sleep some.
“Y-yes Professor. Whatever you think is best…” Jonghyun muttered quietly, as he grabbed his stuff and wandered towards the door. “I think I am getting sick. I shall go home and sleep well so tomorrow I can focus and not disturb your class again. I’m sorry, sir…” He added. His professor nodded and made sure he was out the door before resuming his class.
~~~~~~~
Jonghyun rubbed his forehead as he walked slowly out of his classroom, making his way towards the general direction of the dorms. Something really must be wrong with him. Why the hell was his life flashing before his eyes!? Was he going to have a heart attack and die or something when the flash backs finally got up to date? He knew he really had no other reason to be remembering such strange little moments with Kibum. Kibum was far out of his life, and he had no reason to even spare a thought for him. “This is weird…I must be getting sick…” Jonghyun thought slowly. However, as he drew closer and closer to his dorm, he suddenly started to get a strange feeling in his gut.
Jonghyun grasped his stomach lightly as he glanced down at it slowly. Why was he suddenly kicked with such a strong feeling of dread? It was very concerning now that he thought about it. Did someone break into it while he was in class and steal all his stuff? He had only really ever gotten that feeling a few times before in his life and that was before the verge of a disaster. What was going on, and why did it double, triple, quadruple with every step he took towards his dorm room? He quickly glanced down before yanking his iPhone out of his pocket, preparing to call the police if he needed to.
