back in the UK, Santa makes his first appearance in store windows as early as September.

August. I was in Norwich last Saturday for a wedding, and with time to spare went into John Lewis for a coffee. On the lift board showing all the departments, the coffee shop was listed right by the 'Christmas Shop'.

A few years ago young people celebrated Halloween here. But these days celebrating is strictly prohibited.Nothing doing.

I really like the way the Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. It focuses on family and togetherness (in much the same way I suspect Europeans did Christmas a century or two ago).
