It wasn't easy, getting back to where the treasure room and the statue of Kali waited untouched for them, but it was easier than the first time now that they knew they were in for. Which didn't mean there was any less showboating or invasion of personal space, but that was just the nature of the game they played ( Read more... )

"Always," I say, eyes on her empty hand, as I pull the golden sickle from my pack where it's been wrapped in supple leather. Excalibur is still strapped to my back, juts in case. After the diagrams I found in the temple I gained the sickle from, there was no way I was leaving it- or my mother's broach, tucked inside my shirt- behind.

I start forward, and start to climb up the statue, grunting softly as I pull myself up, crawl from her thigh to the skulls adorning her waist and then up her torso until I'm shimmy precariously along her arm. With a stretch- a long one at that- I reach other and slide the sickle down into place, and turn it.

There's a low, loud thunk from within the wall, and a more encompassing creaking that starts to fill the chamber. I look back to Indiana.

"Now you show me yours," I say.

"Braced," I murmur, stretching as I reach, up, and slide the bowl into her hand until the grooves line up and her wrist sinks, locking the second half of the mechanism into place. There is a great, grating sound and the room shakes and-

"Look out,"I call down to him, as her arms start to cycle around. I half jump, half let myself fall form one down to the other until I can leap away, landing on the ground in a roll and coming up, crouched, to watch the wall part.

Indy was ready for anything at this point. Dumped on a strange island, on a strange world, forced to fend for himself and seek out the missing pieces of this statue to maybe, maybe, find his way home, he didn't think he could be hit with anything he wasn't ready for anymore.

The floor was trembling and he braced himself against a pillar as the wall opened to reveal a corridor taking them further into the temple. They were so close now he could taste it.
