X-COM: Terror From the Deep

Steam games being reviewed a longer process then I thought it would be. Today I am going to look at X-Com: Terror from the Deep.

Now I have to say I have yet to actually play this game via steam. I originally wanted to get the CD off a friend who had it (as memory serves) and just could borrow it to play. Played through most of the campaign before I found it really hard going. I kept being lucky to have three or four people of my team survive to the end of a mission. Cash and Stats were not an issue as this was back in high school and I felt no reason not to cheat with a save game editor.

This was just a reskin of X-COM: UFO Defense yet it was more difficult. I think you were still limited to three or four different types of armour, your people could miss an alien right next to them with a pistol and they had a light and darkness value. That last meant you had to bring lights with you to throw and see what was going on. (In the first X-Com I solved that by bringing lots of flame weapons. I would set the map on fire up to the maximum number of burning tiles to see by most of the time.) The other limits on crew, equipment and resources all added up to make it an excellent (if challenging) tactical game.

I had planned to play this game after finishing the first X-COM again, but I had forgotten how long X-Com games are. They are truly going to build up their value just by the time to play.

Current steam value of 0$. A false measure of my thoughts on it, unlike the sequals.
