I just want to say that this is utterly amazing, and is exactly how I feel about the relationship. I'm not a Doctor/Rose shipper. I can't see them together, just them, romantically. I also don't ship any other duo between these three. The three of them are stronger together, and I can only see them romantically linked when it is all three of them. There is just something about them together that works.

And now I have a whole bunch of new, awesome fics to check out.

There is something unique about the three of them together, isn't there? It's like architecture: triangles are the strongest shape.

There's so much more to explore, too. I was actually thinking of adding recs under each of the themes I listed at the end of fics that center around that theme. Interested?

I'm totally interested. Most of the threesome fics I've found have been exactly what you mentioned in the beginning with the Doctor and Rose being in love and inviting Jack to join in. Not my thing at all, so I'd love any actual all three together fics.

Oh, I certainly have nothing against Nine/Rose stories that turn into Nine/Rose/Jack stories. In fact, I like them quite a lot. The love between Nine and Rose can be expanded to include Jack; that's the beauty of the sort of love they have. What I was trying to say in the first passage you quoted is that stories where the relationship between two of them is more important or stronger than the relationship between all three aren't really OT3 stories. These stories aren't about expanding love to include a third person, because the third isn't truly included.

Oooh, you finished it! This is a lovely manifesto for why Nine, Rose, and Jack fit each other so well. I especially like your analyses of how the Doctor's initial treatment of Jack differs from how he treats someone he actually distrusts (like Adam) and of the body language of the PotW kiss.

Amazing post and very thought provoking. I tend to ship any form of The Doctor/Rose but somehow Jack just makes it all that little bit more perfect/real/believable. Looking forward to reading those fics you mentioned. Thanks

Oh wow. This is so weird, because only last night I read over "Safe Harbour" - one of my old OT3 fics, and it seemed a bit better than I remembered

I really look forward to hearing your thoughts; your meta inspired mine, in many ways. It helped crystallize all the reasons why the season 2 Doctor/Rose dynamic bothered me so much when I'd enjoyed it in S1.
