The myth of Sodom

The tale of Sodom is one that homophobic religious fundamentalists just looooove to use as a case against homosexuality. If you don't know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, here is a brief synopsis: the city was full of sin, so God sent two angels there to check it out and see if it was worth saving. Basically, all the men in the city came to the ( Read more... )

Finally, someone else who gets this! I basically wrote an essay on this for a support group I was once a lurker on, but this is so much more concise. Generally even just bringing up "so it'd be all right if the angels were female-looking, then?" to some of these types makes them pause. Rape is a violent act, anyhow, not a sexual one. (And, well, there's the fact that they're angels-- God's messengers. That's all kinds of blasphemous.)

I came here for fic, and I'm staying for the writing. Thank you.

Thanks. I enjoy writing my little opinion pieces. lol

Have you heard of The God Box by Alex Sanchez? It's a book about a high school senior living in a small Christian town who struggles to accept his own homosexuality. It presents a lot of great arguments. It's funny, cause when I was reading the part about Sodom and Gomorrah, I kept laughing, because I'd already thought of most of the ideas presented (although some hadn't even occurred to me). I don't read much YA anymore, but I find Alex Sanchez's work to be well-written, realistic, and honest.

Anywho, feel free to add me. I've got plenty more fics on the way (most of them being Kirk/Chekov, since that's my current obsession).

I have yet to write anything actually of consequence on my blog besides my occasional rants. It's awesomely refreshing to read the LJs of people who put their space to good use.

I've never read it, but that book came up pretty much daily on that support group newsletter. It was hella popular there, as religion came up a lot in people's discussions and stories, and the arguments seem sound in the first place, which is good.

I'll definitely add you. (Btw, is it okay if I rec some of your nu!Trek fic on my site?)

Yeah, I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested in the issue of homosexuality and religion (I'm not religious myself, but I find religion fascinating).\

Oh, I'm flattered. LOL. Sure, you can rec me. Where would you be doing so? :)
