What do you want to be when you grow up?

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I never knew anyone who wanted to be a firefighter or a cop (which seem to be the prototypical responses). I did know a few people that wanted to be an astronaut, fighter pilot and/or peace activist (sometimes the same person!?!). But for the most part, no one knew, really knew, what they wanted to be or do ( Read more... )

My first career aspiration was to be an opera singer. Second was to be a farmer.

Obviously, I am neither.

Do I love what I do? Absolutely. Are there days when I wonder what the hell I am doing in my profession? Absolutely. Are there days I still dream of becoming a rock star/professional singer? Yes (ohgodyes), but I am also a realist.

So I guess the answer is: I love my job, but I still harbor secret dreams of another career. Even if said career is ridiculously unpossible :)

Dreams of another career? Would that be farmer, or rock star? ;-)

when i was young, i wanted to write and illustrate childrens books. then as a teen, i wanted to design basketball shoes for nba stars.

at 28, i have no idea what i want to be "when i grow up". and unfortunately, i'm not all that attached to what i currently do. university graduate admission does have some plus points, but i'm pretty positive it not what i want to do for the rest of my life.

I once knew someone who designed shoes (for Nike). A great job, if you can get it. I have no idea how they got the job. Perhaps there is a school for shoe design?

Writing and illustrating childrens books seems like a good thing to do when you grow up...

happiness come from within grasshoppah.

The best job i ever had was the one where i liked everyone i worked with. Grasshopper made no money but had a good time. Do you really think there is such thing as a calling or is it, i generally like my job, or i generally dislike my job. That is, unless you are uber talented.

At least you get to work around ladies.

That is very true, and something I've discovered recently. Working with people you like, regardless of sex, is the best job.

In converse, working with people you don't like or can't trust is no fun, regardless of what you do or how much you get paid.

Lessons learned...
