I just got back from fencing practice. The marshal remarked that I'm doing "really well" considering this was only my 5th or 6th practice

That's cool, man. I took fencing in college and did pretty well. I never got to use anyting more than a foil, though, so that's cool you get to use bucklers and such. Riposte, parry, attack! heh heh heh
Hey, what's up? Was looking around for other LJ'ers interested in fencing and found your blog interesting, especially because I'm planning to check out the local SCA group and see if I'd be interested in doing some light rapier on the side. Add me back? :-)
I've never really done olympic style fencing. I took a class once, but the teacher was a real hard-ass who seemed to be trying to make it as un-fun as possible. I still like watching it in the olympics though.
My experience in the SCA on the other hand has been very good so far though. The people are very welcoming and happy to teach. I can't guarantee every SCA group is like that of course, but in general they are pretty welcoming to newcomers.
