Someone once told me that I always put a disclaimer in front of everything I do, so here's the disclaimer for the TMBG concert write-up I promised nearly two weeks ago: For one, how ridiculous am I for taking so long to post this? Answer: very ridiculous. I wrote the bulk of this last week and dragged out finishing it, but still. Also, it's long.

1. Flansburgh was not lying - I don't know what you actually look like, but that is a great photo with him, truly. I don't blow smoke much, so you can believe me that my evaluation is sincere - you look young, very happy, and as if you were being hugged by an old friend. In fact, you look kind of beautiful, all flush with that fan-buzz high! Srsly. I have seen photos of J&J with some of the weirdest bugliest fans on the planet, and you do not fall in to that category.
2. He's completely inured to freaked-out fans, ones who are so excited they are ready to pass out, so you just being jazzed and a little titillated by his attention isn't creepy, it's his job. Consider the Anchor Arm girl? You can bite me now if you want to? And he took that in stride. A professional is our Flansburgh.
3. Bucking the cliche, he is taller in person, and isn't it weird? I was sure he was shorter than Linnell, but either he was in tall shoes when I stood next to him, or he's just under 6 feet. ( ... )

2. I number a lot of my entries.

I believe I read somewhere that Flans is an inch taller than Linnell, coming in at 5'11". Linnell always slouches, though, so it's hard to tell anyway. I'm around 5'6" or 5'7" and I was so Flans-dazed that I didn't even notice the height difference until I saw the photo.
Haha, I wasn't trying to inspire envy but I guess that means this is a good recap. The acoustic numbers really were fantastic, though. It seemed like the size of the room shrunk by half when they did that. They should lose power more often!

I've been to other awesome concerts where I saw my favorite artists or that meant a lot to me, and the thing I can't get over about this TMBG show was that while it was all of those things, on top of that it was just a great time. Like, for those few hours nothing else in the world mattered, nothing was problem. I love the Johns so much for giving that to their fans.
I KNOW! No songs from the S/T or Lincoln! It stings even more because I was checking out the other setlists from this tour and I think at the show the night before ours, they played "Ana Ng" AND "Puppet Head"! *iz ded* Like I said, it's all chance. But if they hadn't done the conga number, I wouldn't have moved up closer to the stage and I wouldn't have been able to stick around and meet Flans, so sometimes chance can make for a blessing in disguise. (Ugh, sorry for sounding like a cliche.) It's a bummer that you weren't able to meet him, too, but ( ... )

Don't Let's Start
Ana Ng
The thing about this band is that you might not like something of theirs from ten years ago, but you might love something from 20 years ago. To quote Run D.M.C., it's tricky.

This was awesome! Seriously!
It was... They... I can't even... !!!!!!
My sentiments exactly! I mean, it's like you overheard my thoughts from EVERY TIME I SEE THEM.
Thank you for preserving the wonder of, "I shit you not." I hope that's in the audio recording of the show (have it, just haven't listened to it yet)! It's something to look forward to, yearn and hope for.
Also thank you for collecting all these YouTube videos and pics in one place. I need to watch them when I'm not very late for sleep. I'm all super-charged for the show tomorrow after reading this awesome, awesome recap!

Don't worry, "I shit you not" is definitely in there, followed by one of my other favorite things Linnell said: "This is a real kinda thing." Think about that. This is a real kinda thing. Oh, Linnell.
By now you've gone to the concert so I'll just say that I'm sure it was a crazy good time and I look forward to reading the details about it, and then being envious that I couldn't go, haha.
