Are we still talking about the election? I know most of you are probably closing up that shop, but let me get in my little squeak before you do. I voted last Tuesday! For the first time! Legally 2004 was my first election, but it was also my first term in college and I was in a different state and didn't know what I was doing and didn't care enough

re palin: it's the same old story of blaming a woman for a man's failure. make no mistake, she was a huge cause for loss, but his selection of her as a running mate was all HIS fault and HIS advisors' fault. they picked sarah palin, they GOT sarah palin, then they blame sarah palin for being sarah palin. using her as a scapegoat is misogyny, surprise surprise. even if she weren't around, i think mccain said and did enough stupid shit to lose the election all by his lonesome. but it's easier to blame her and hate her.

i was soooooo happy when ohio got called for obama. i think i was happier then than i was for his overall victory, perhaps because by the time victory was announced i already knew it was coming while ohio was a surprise. or maybe because i have such low expectations of ohio that i had forgotten there's more to ohio than just my shit suburb, that there are liberals out there and they are awesome.

YYY! On election day I had the feeling that things would go Obama's way nationally; it was Ohio that I was unsure about. Especially after Ohio voted for Bush in 2004 and how close that was for our state, I really didn't know how it would end up. I think I was happier about our state going blue than the country, too.

well usually ohio votes however all of the country votes, so i guess we should have been able to assume that ohio would be blue since the US was going blue, but you never know until it happens! but yes, i feel like ohio redeemed ourselves after the part we played in getting and keeping bush in office. and i mean, people in columbus had to wait for 5 fucking hours to vote in some instances. that REALLY makes me proud that they weathered through it to vote, especially since those were likely obama supporters!

It makes me happy to have strangers hugging over Ohio instead of people in blue states blaming it like in 2004. (Whenever someone said Ohio lost the election for Kerry I'd pipe up that, well, at least my county went blue.)

Also your election night sounds like it beats the hell out of my half-asleep adventure on the couch watching Charles Gibson.

And I had the look of a confused puppy for a second because I was like, "wait, what, I thought that wasn't going to happen yet!" It was a bit anti-climactic, haha.

Yes! This! I had the same moment. Election night had no story arc. And it was even weirder here on the west coast because the election was over at like 8. We had elected a new president before bedtime! It was so simple. I can't remember an election like this.

And I am right there with you on Sarah Palin. The Republican party made some seriously fucked up choices. McCain made some seriously fucked up choices. And now that they lost they have decided to try and make themselves look better by playing "let's blame the dumb broad". Gross.

I totally forgot the holidays were coming up because of the election. I feel like I have some sort of residual medicine head left over from ELECTION FEVER! and it's just now starting to clear.

Because, let's face it, a well-known and conservative Republican over weird-named Obama? I assumed most of the country wouldn't put much thought into such decision.

Yep, same here. I assumed fear would get the swinging voters in the end and McCain would win because he doesn't threaten people's idea of what a president should be. I am very glad that I was wrong.
