An Update Wherein I Beg For Assistance

Hey guys, I need some advice. About three years ago, I built a PC, and it's been great for my purposes. I'm not running the latest games on it, and I don't have a great budget for building a new one until next year. Thus, I've kinda been adding on to it and repairing it as necessary.

I'd noticed for the past year now that if it stayed off for a ( Read more... )

I really don't think your setup would be overloading a 450W psu.

Sounds to me like you've done a pretty thorough job of trouble-shooting already. I would agree with your diagnosis of motherboard failure.

Unfortunately, I don't think that Socket 939 boards are still available via retail, so you'll probably have to replace that processor, too.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I am not sufficiently skilled to answer any of your questions. I'm just popping in because your sad fish icon is so sad.

There, there, sad fish! *pat pat*

Yeah, sounds motherboard-y. And greek is right, 939 boards are not available at retail. If you wanted another 939 board, you'd probably have to go eBay. Or you could get a different board and processor.

If you wanted to make sure it wasn't your power supply, New Egg has a calculator here that should tell you if what you've got is sufficient.

Also, Kingston memory has a lifetime warranty on it. You can check on that using Memtest to see if it is wonky. That program is also available on most Linux Live CDs if you happen to have one of those laying around.

Also also, dude, wired ethernet cards cost like $7. You were really going to install a whole different OS to save that?
