...you wait for your street (or those nearby) to be bombed in the Blitz, and then go and swap your front door for one of theirs.

Scrap yard type places = Architectural Antiques Dealers these days. Incredible mark ups, Dark Mark (Private Dick).

Bah! It's an internal door I am after. So, if I pilfered one from a bombed neighbour's house it'd be likely tp have bits of bombed neighbour all over it. A slight drawback I know. That, and the fact that the delicate glass is unlikely to survive the blast.
