I think MS started taking internationalisation seriously when they lost basically the whole of Iceland to Linux because they hadn't done an Icelandic version of Windows, but Icelandic Linux hackers were more than happy to internationalise Linux and Linux apps to Icelandic.
Incidentally, I'd always thought the mines in minesweeper were sea mines - they certainly look more like sea mines than land mines.

But yes, I quite liked the suggestion from one of the comments to that article: "Perhaps taking a different tack like the MSN/Messenger MineSweeper game and making it even more nautical in feel (flags are bobbing bouys, splooshing noises for misses)."
