Of Holidays and Typical Days...

If you could invent a holiday, what and when would it be? What special traditions would take place on that day? If I could name a holiday, I'd make one for victims of cancer. There's two days that recognise AIDS, June 21 and December 1. There's not a lot of fan fare for either and they're not exactly holidays. But I'd give cancer awareness a day

It's become typical o see, or feel, my brother hanging around. Bobby's been dead for more than twenty years. Closer to thirty. I used to imagine he was still with me when I was a kid. But lately, I feel like he's watching over me.

"As I'm sure he his."

Kathy smiled.

"I've been thinkin' that perhaps...I might like t'be a doctor someday," she confided. "O'course, I'll need some time t'determine whether or not I'd be any good at it.."

"I think you would make a fine doctor, Kathy. You care for people, that's one of the most important things. There are many doctors who have no interest iin the people they treat, in the lives they effect. You'd be one of the ones who cared about the whhole picture. When I treat a person, I treat the whole family, a network of friends and loved ones. It's pretty powerful sometimes. And sometimes it's a lot of pressure, expecially when you're dealing with a situation you can't really help. But in the end, it's all worth it."

"Thank ye. An'..wow. Just-- wow."

Carter grins at her. Her innocence is one thing he cherishes about her. He reaches up to ruffle her hair. "But you've a ffew years to make a decision. Just something to think about."

Kathy grins in return.

"An' I will," she states confidently.

"How are Kim an' Leo?" she asks, remembering them suddenly. She had promised to see if Wolfram and Hart could help them...then Angel had been hurt.

"They're wonderful. Leo is doing great. He's getting the cast off his leg soon. Kim couldn't be happier. They're really doing well. Thanks for asking." He smiles at her, and thinking the question only proves his point about how she's one of the rare few who is actually interested and concerned about people.

Kathy smiled.

"I'm glad t'hear o'that," she says. "Have they any luck in findin' Leo's father?"

Carter nods, a slight sadness falling over his eyes. "They found his remains. He's no longer a threat."

[kathy_tm]

Kathy fought to keep her jaw from dropping in surprise.

"Oh..."

"It's for the best. I can't say I'm sorry about it." Carter shrugs.

"What...happened t'him?" Kathy asked, before catching herself. "Beg pardon..'tis not me place."

[john_carter_md]

"Don't be silly. Of course ou can ask. But I'm not even sure. They found his skull and some bones at a dump site. In Boston, I think. No one knows for sure what happened to him. I'm not sure anyone really cares enough to try to find out. We're all just glad he's not an issue anymore. Leo and Kim are safe."

[kathy_tm]

Kathy nodded.

"'Tis what matters," she stated. "He willn't be able t'hurt them anymore, which I'm glad for." She thought to herself that though she had never met Kim or Leo, she felt as though she already knew, and cared about, them.

"So am I." Carter agreed with a smile. "You'll have to meet them sometime. I think you'd get along really well. You and Kim, you and Leo. Leo's six now. He's grown so much just in the few weeks I've known them."

Kathy nodded.

"I'd love t'meet them," she agreed.
