Is "allegory" really the term I'm looking for here? I really don't know that kind of terminology half as well as I should. This is a story that, in miniature, captures an image that would fit well as an example of a larger social analysis. There's probably a more precise term for that than "allegory." holy fucking jeepers. I think this is something more metonymic. Or synechdochic? I'll think about it.

I'm sorry that I'm responsible for you getting ads - I didn't know how to have a choice about that (LJ neophyte), but I just switched them off. I don't mind it - they're offering me real estate in and around Homer, actually, which is a little creepy, but they're not oppressive. But they are ads. But I think they're fine.

As ads go, they're really not bad. Mine seem to be offering me books on anarchism and Catholicism, actually, which is more than a little ironic. But wait - if you end up feeling sorry because 1) you were so sweet as to photograph cannons for me, and 2) I put them up without taking down any of the ones I have on there now, and 3) I am too cheap to pay for the full-on ad-free LJ, then I am truly reinforcing your neuroses in an irresponsible way. Don't be sorry! Thanks for the cannons! I will thread some kind of path through the plethora of choices that consumer capitalism seems to offer me....

Wow. What a story.

I don't see ads, either, I guess because I have a paid account. Call me? IM me? I wanna talk.
