Aww, tishookr lady! :-) I hope you'll be proud of the anthology.

I think it's important to work quietly and contribute where I can... like if my friends need help with Shari'a and the academic side of things, I'm around to support them, but I've always had an aversion to meddling.

The one thing I do reject is when certain scholars (will go unnamed) start crying that Muslim Women's Studies should be exclusivist for Muslim women and that to me is just stifling intellectual freedom.

Knowledge needs to be open to all, everyone needs to be free to learn without boundaries. No group owns any area of knowledge as an exclusive possession.

I do. I am sympathetic to the work and needs of other Feminist communities, and they do have my support when they want/need it, but I also know better than to meddle.

Happy new year!

When non-Muslims lead it, Muslim women's rights go backwards.
When Muslim women do it all, they can advance their rights.

I've noticed the same thing. When Western women get involved they tend to stumble all over cultures they don't understand. They have good intentions, but it often makes matters worse.

Example-- Laura Bush, who had been staying quiet, suddenly speaking out as feminist when it was time to invade Muslim countries. Were any feminists impressed by her sincerity? Versus serving an ulterior agenda?
