You said it sister (in my case I find the badass Umbrian self to be quite fun, but the Quakers don't seem to have a problem with that :o)
As you may be aware, I've discovered more about my Latvian Jewish ancestry in the last couple of years, not all of it comfortable and I've not found it easy to connect with the Jewish community for some of the same reasons you mention, even the reform community. This is an especial pity as our local Jewish community is one of the oldest in the UK and it would be nice to find connections whereby I could discover if any of my potential Latvian relatives survived the pogroms the ghetto and the Kz's (for their sake as much as mine- I guess they'd also quite like to know that there are still relatives out here, however distant :o)

There is one Muslim spaces that I have been in that have embraced the sexuality/sexiness of the people within, and that was at a queer Muslim iftar in Chicago through Akabaka productions. The time I went, I was still ID'ing as female and my mohawk was at its fullest and I felt great and (not sure of sexy, but close) accepted without having to bow into the good little girl thing.
I know what you mean about the good little girl issue though. I've seen it, felt it, and bought into it as I thought it was a requirement, at least for being in a mosque. Now I'm trying to figure out the good little boy thing. I think being non-arab has something to do with it - in a Muslim space, converts (and the Chinese friend I went with, who is ethnically and religiously Muslim), seemed to never be "good enough."
