Listening to Juan Williams . . .

. . . on MPR, this afternoon.  He was, understandably, still kind of moist about the Obama victory, which wasn't a surprise.  Me, I was thrilled to hear that Jack Markell was elected governor of Delaware, becoming the first Jewish governor there, and I only know a little less about Markell* than I think many Obama's supporters know about Obama's Read more... )

I'm still trying to figure out how it's racist when 40% of white people don't vote for the black guy, but when 90% of the blacks vote for the black guy, it isn't. And how do Latinos factor into this?

I have been experiencing flashbacks to a number scenes from scifi novels during this entire election process. None of them bode well for us.

I match up what I've seen the poly ticks talk about to scenes I read in novels.

"Road to Damascus" Linda Evans A neo-bolo novel. After a brutal alien attack is thwarted a party that sounds quite familiar wins a landslide using I think every dirty trick possible. It gets very dark after that. This story is what could happen if the people who took office had zero restraint. This combines the worst of French, German and Russian history. It ends on a happy note with most of the planet's economy devastated an illiterate generation and a triumphant resistance.

"Wolf Time" Lars Walker His story is solid well written. He uses stories the background 'noise' to display a host of libertarian and conservative horrors.

There are others but those two are the freshest.

I heard a black man from Missouri on talk radio and he said he was ashamed of the black people because they were voting for Obama simply because he's (part) black and haven't the faintest idea of what he stands for or who he really is. That just proved the point. How sad.
