Visiting my parents.

Today I drove around with my dad looking at rubbish left out for the council cleanup: old mattresses, tables, broken plastic Sebel chairs, tons of televisions. LOL, I'm 'precious' about second-hand stuff in general, but it's very environmentally friendly and all. Although I think a lot of the good stuff gets picked up early by people who take it pretty damn seriously. And apparently scrap metal is worthwhile, too. I once wanted to pick up an old TV though - I just wanted to use it as a table, I haven't seen a really old one with a rotary dial in years XD

Haha, I grew up with hippies as parents, man! I think a fair bit of the furniture in this place was on the side of the road at one time or other. You just rub a bit of metho or eucalyptus on it and you're good to go. There are things I wouldn't get secondhand, though: I see people selling mattresses on telegraph poles in the city and just think whyyyyyyyy?

It's a bit different in town -- up here it's a once a year thing, but where I live (in the city *g*) people just put it out whenever. So scavenging in the city is a bit more of an opportunistic thing -- when you see it you need to grab it.
