Writing days . . . .

1. Spring 1970.  Writing on THE FOREVER WAR at the outdoor hot dog cafe in Brooksville. It opened at 9 in the morning and had ice-cold beer. Outside of town, on the road to Ocala. Biked there with the Olivetti Valentine strapped on the bike, maybe a half-mile. They had great foot-long chili dogs!

But I'd start my day before that.  I'd usually get ( Read more... )

Very glad to see a post from you, I was concerned that perhaps you'd had some health problems. Hopefully just tied up finishing another book?

I think I have the same Tandy laptop, the TRS-80 Model 100? Mine's in a closet, still works just fine. Little bit of battery corrosion on the springs. I found it excellent for typing up notes during class in college.

I bought a Model 100 in the first week after they came on the market, while home on leave from USAF in Germany. It filled a huge gap in my life, as I'd sold my Model 1 before going off to Basic Training. I used that machine constantly for almost ten years, finally replacing it with a PowerBook 100, then soon after with a PowerBook Duo. The Model 100 and the Duo had the advantage that they would fit into a zippered 3-ring binder cover after removing the rings, which made them super convenient to carry around.

Ideaphile, I think my Tandy finally gave up the ghost about ten years ago. I was able to save most of the correspondence, I recall. Of douse I was thoroughly appled by then. I do remember one translational year -- was it '84? -- when I was using the Tandy and an Apple in tandem, the Tandy (Radio Shack) being a knock-about backup. It faded into entropy when the Mac laptops shrunk to a smaller footprint.

best wishes

Hi Joe,
I've just got the latest copy of SFX (a Brit sci-fi magazine) and inside there's an interesting article about the Forever Free graphic novel. Also in the article there is mention of a follow-up trilogy called, 'A new Beginning' (from Marygay's POV). Is this trilogy in book or comic format, and is it already out or currently in development?
Regards,
Peej

I have the first volume of it, Peej, but it's an author's copy. I don't know whether it's generally available yet. Probably not, but soon.

From Gay: To clarify, the Forever Free graphic novel is in three parts and the first part is "A New Beginning," from Marygay's POV. It's the story "A Separate War."
