Build Our Own Draft

Some friends and I (at my prompting) played a "Build Our Own Draft" event, a wacky Magic: The Gathering format.

This involved (theoretically) eight players designing 45 cards (we all used MtG Editor), bringing them together, and booster drafting them. What actually happened is that three people were happy to play, but preferred to not make cards, so other people took up the slack.

In short, the event itself was Totally Awesome.

It's a ton of fun just to see what other people made, and to further see what other people think of those cards. There was a lot of laughter around the table, especially as lots of people did make fairly silly cards (there were cards of some of the players, made by a designer who didn't actually play).

See the cards I made (or a very close facsimile to what was actually played). There's lots of references to old rules, which can be found at various Magic sites for rulings.

There are certainly still some issues with some of the cards. We did have one person do a single review of other people's cards, which caught a ton of issues, as far as I can tell, but plenty of issues still slipped through.

At any rate, we'll certainly play with some of the cards again (you can just bring 45 cards to contribute to the draft, even if they aren't specially designed or whatever). And it was a lot of fun. I've poked Thomas enough that he's on the way to designing his own block.
