Here is the letter I sent this morning to Linda Burke, the principal of my former secondary school, about the decision to destaff R.L. Her email address is linda.burke@fcps.edu. ( Read more... )

This is a very powerful letter and it's extremely well-written. I agree with everything you wrote and you have inspired me to craft my own letter. I was really heart-broken at the idea of Mr. Mirabal leaving Lake Braddock. He certainly goes above and beyond what is required of him, and LBSS has been fortunate to have him as their theatre director over the years.
Thanks for being on point for this, an important way to utilize the combined strength of our voice as the alumni of LBT. Your letter certainly cuts to the core of what is so incredible and valuable about the program R.L. created, and the enduring love we all feel for the place and people, even a decade and more removed.
My own letter to the FCPS administration will be drafted and sent...as soon as my finals are over...
Thank you, Michael. I hope your finals go well. I remember from last fall's Next Stage that you were studying for the LSATs, too - how long now until graduation?
remarkable at how over the course of seventeen years the feelings about LBT and RL remain consistant. i, too, will be drafting a letter to ms. burke and urge the administration to consider the significance of the program that reaches beyond the classroom, off the stage, and improves the lives of the students that have benefitted from it, past and present.
thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
Thank YOU, Jon - you have a really valuable perspective on this, having continued to assist the program in a way that is unique among LBT's alumni. Most of the people who are writing are further from the performing arts than you are, and it'll be great to have your viewpoint on the broad significance of the program both as someone who works in the performing arts and as someone who sees its impact beyond that field.
Saw your email too - I'll get to that in a moment.
Thank you so much for your fantastic letter. We current LBT-ers are doing everything in our power to help the situation and letters from anyone helps a great deal (but letters from Alumni who graduated 14 years ago couldn't be better) We are having a meeting tonight to discuss the future. If you would like I'll keep you informed on the meeting.
Thank you so much for your comment, Allison. Yes, please do let me know the outcome of the meeting. I'm interested in helping however I can, as I know other alumni are as well.
