Normally I don't pay much attention to the world of movie!HP, but this warranted a read. And then Rickman made me giggle and break into a big grin*, so it warranted a share:

I think dubbing lines is actually VERY common -- not just for voiceovers. You want to have one audiotrack that's free from exterior noise so they can mix it in when something isn't clear, although often they are watching a performance of themselves so they can recapture how they delivered it in the moment. The fact that he says he's watching stills of the trio makes it seem like he's doing a voiceover.

But I just wanted to chime in that I LOVED that letter. It really must have taken him by surprise to realize what a phenomenon it became and I know I often have those moments where you step back and you think, "how did so much time pass?" It must be terrific to feel like you've just spent the last decade working on something really extraordinary.

Never knew that! (Seems pretty basic, too, I'm not very film-literate.) That is going to totally change the way I watch my next movie.

You put it perfectly--I like, too, that he is able to feel like he was "working on something really extraordinary." It would be annoyingly easy for an actor of his stature/fame to dismiss his little HP excursion as something for the kids or something overhyped. Gives me a lot of respect for him.
