cravings...

Nov 16, 2005 10:24

I woke up starving with the worst craving for pad Thai. I don't have the makings of pad Thai or even the close approximation of pad Thai. And I have no fuckin' means of transport so I can't go and get the stuff to make pad Thai. So I am eating a Weightwatchers fish pie instead.

I can't decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I know, right? What a piss-poor substitute. But at least I''m not hungry anymore.

Nevertheless, I could really wolf some satay chicken right now...

Unfulfilled cravings are the pits. Of course, now you've got me thinking about it, and I haven't even had breakfast yet!

I know this is going to seem strange, but I saw an old comment of yours on Brits_Americans group to someone about working in pubs when you first moved to the UK. Well, I'm in a similar situation and just wondering how exactly it worked.

Technically, it's illegal for me to work at the moment, but we really need the extra income to make rent this next month, and the COA for marriage in the UK is still going to take a while (indeed, it's the cost of applying for it that put us in this situation in the first place). I've walked into a few pubs that i've seen asking for work, and began to wonder if maybe they were just turning me away because of my American Accent.

I guess I'm just wondering if they'd really care, if they'd ask at all if I was legal to work here and stuff like that. I'd really appreciate knowing how you went about it (you never know, it just might help). Thanks.
