Problem with my lots

Jul 20, 2013 19:22

It has come to my attention that my game developed the Maxis Social “Super Duper Hug” from a badly made extended family mod found on MATY. This action has been uploaded invisibly in some of my lots. I am currently taking down all my links here and on MTS until I have cleaned my game of this annoying action. This may take me quite awhile to clean ( Read more... )

Oh? What exactly is the "super duper hug" anyway?

I've downloaded some of your lots before, but all of the CC-free ones, so I didn't see anything strange hiding in there. :-P

It's a maxis social that we are not supposed to see. Modders clone it to make new social hacks, and if they don't know what they are doing they can create this in peoples games if they hack gets pulled. Thing is I have not 1 but 3 fixes in place and haven't actually seen it in my game for 2 years, but somehow it's still there invisibly, probably reactivated when I put in another mod that caused it. It's all rather complicated and I'm no modder so I don't understand it myself ( ... )

I've downloaded the retirement home, and I've installed it with the CCleaner, but I have yet to drop it into my game. Should I delete it until further notice?

I loaded up a lot, and had a wife click on her husband to see if I see any "super duper hug" and nothing looked like it? I also had a sibling click on another, and I saw nothing yet.

I actually don't remember if I have any mods that fix it... Because I've never heard of it... :S

Boiling Oil's No Sim Loaded, deadly neck bite and Dolphin's Control This Sim will all fix it. There may also be other mods around that fix it. Which is why it's so weird my lots can still have it when I have all 3 fixes. It's like being the carrier for the flu while you feel fine yourself. I pulled my folder when I was building the Lego house as I had a cc fire place over writing the maxis one, so I think that must have activated it somehow. You might not see it unless you pull your download folder. But then pulling it can be the trigger for it so if you don't see it I would leave well enough alone.

Post #44 is where Dolphin explains it. http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=140314&c=1&ht=0&page=2&pp=25#startcomments

Mmm... is that one of the ones that the clean installer doesn't catch? I'll be on the lookout for it, but it does not seem to have appeared in the BACC or the new iteration of Riverblossom. (Not that I'd know in Hope Springs, I'm still building all the lots!) I'll be on the lookout.

Yes it's a Maxis thing that modders clone that we are not supposed to see, so CI has nothing to catch.

This is why it's so tricky. It seems to only be showing in two peoples games who have no cc. I think most people have at least one mod that kills it.
Dolphins control this sim, deadly neck bite and Boiling Oils no sim loaded all kill it and there are probably others that will fix it. I never thought I would see this darn thing again as I have all of 3 of those mods, but it showed up when I pulled my download folder. I think it was the extended family hack which reactivated it. Esme has been testing my social hacks for the last two weeks and pin pointed that as the cause.

I believe if you get it from a lot it only shows on the lot. If you get it from pulling a social hack like I did it shows up everywhere.

Okay, I don't have any lots of yours in current neighborhoods, so it should probably be fine if I enter one of my crapped-out backup neighborhoods, slightly alter, and repackage/redownload your lots for my own use, right?

Yeah, that's a bad hack, but I don't have the extended family hack (or any vampire hacks whatsoever) so I should be good. (Is this a hack for second cousins or for larger families? It seems useful, I'm gonna have second cousins out the wazoo soonish... assuming it's not borked.)

Okay, this is why puting in "control this sim" and subsequently removing it works:

"Update 2006-03-23: Fixed a problem with the fallback GUID. This problem would cause an instance of the Maxis Social Download Test example to replace my plugin in the event you uninstall this hack's package file. Unfortunately, this caused undesirable behaviour: A couple debug menu options appeared, including one about a "super duper hug". Sims would also autonomously do the "super duper hug" thing. The latest version of this hack doesn't have this problem, ( ... )
